Overview

'Gravity Arena' is a gameplay prototype produced from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5.4.
In most games, gravity is represented as a constant and has little effect on gameplay.

'Gravity Arena' invites players to mess around with gravity in the same way that ‘Portal’ and ‘Prince of Persia: Sands of Time’ play with space and time.
Role
This was a solo assignment so I was entirely responsible for the design and development of the game.

This included researching existing physics-based simulations, arranging user testing sessions, designing the environmental puzzles and QA testing the solution as the project evolved.

Samples

These images represent samples of my work on this project: they show my initial designs for each level contained within the prototype.

Early levels represent tutorials, with new hazards and gameplay features being steadily introduced as the player progresses.

Outcome
Feedback from user testing sessions was universally positive, with participants reporting that the game felt polished and was fun to play.

Upon submission, the project was awarded a First with a total score of 82%.

Feedback praised the modular structure of the game and its enormous potential to expand.
Work is ongoing, with a range of new hazards and gameplay features planned for the future.
